Morton West Student Wins National COVID-19 Video Contest

Morton West Student Wins National COVID-19 Video Contest

One Morton West student found herself spotlighted in the campaign to promote further COVID-19 vaccination this summer. Senior, Annet Michelle Ramirez submitted a video talking directly to the importance of getting vaccinated to the Health Career Collaborative (HCC), a national organization of educators, scientists and other health care professionals dedicated to advancing the importance of health careers in the nation. Her video was among the many submitted throughout the country to the group, who were looking for factual, engaging and persuasive reasons to get the shot. Ramirez presented a video arguing how the vaccine is beneficial for everyone; talking about how the shot dramatically reduces hospitalization and death, a fact that is still true with the new delta variant that has overtaken other versions of the SARS-COV2 virus throughout the world. The HCC panel of physicians and public health experts ruled that her video was not only accurate but worthy of receiving the top award for its contest. “We’re incredibly proud to see Annet present such a powerful argument and win this contest,” said Board Secretary Jessica Jaramillo-Flores. “Her success, along with the achievements of so many other Morton students this summer, shows us how bright the future is for our community.” Ramirez’s video was one of four videos recognized by the HCC. Each one spoke to the importance of getting the vaccine, not only to end the pandemic but also to save lives and reduce the burden of hospitals throughout the world.
