Janet Rodriguez, a junior at Morton East High School, is the first person that should come to mind when thinking of a student who has the potential to bring forth monumental change. She is currently enrolled in 3 AP classes with a GPA of 4.1. The club she has been most involved in is JSA which she is the president of.
With the workload that AP comes with, she admits having struggled in her studies. Although, she is persistent and determined which leads her to push herself. She has many goals set as a student, and she does not give up easily.
“...the more you practice something, the easier it gets later on...I think it’s just perseverance and not giving up,” Janet said.
Rodriguez values her education above all. Whenever she isn’t feeling confident about a subject, she seeks out help from teachers and peers. She strives to do well academically, so she can get into a good school.
“...the accomplishment I am most proud of, academically, was an invitation to Stanford that I got, recently...to go to their program intensive law and trial. Yeah, I mean, it’s such a prestigious school, and for them to have invited me...is very honoring. Yeah, to see like how like my hard work pays off,” she said.
With sights set on politics, she talks about getting a career in law or public policy to help others. Even as a junior, she knows where she wants to go and what she must do to get there.
“I like the idea of helping people, of making the world a better place, making my community a better place. So, I definitely feel like I have like a more responsibility to give back to my community...” she said.
She is very determined in her goals towards doing more for her community. She is a huge advocate for change, she has shown this through her work with JSA. As the president of JSA, she is very involved in politics and activism. JSA has provided her with multiple opportunities to do more to help others.
“Every week, where I would just like to sit back and hear them talk. Yeah, and eventually that led me to stay in the club and actually try to like be involved,” Janet said.
What she loved the most about joining JSA is how welcoming the people were and how passionate they are. She stayed because she wanted to do more and involve herself more.
“...the passion of people talking about like their beliefs and what they’re passionate about trying to convey that to other people. I feel like that’s very important,” Janet stated.
She is a very ambitious person who couldn’t be more adamant about doing all she can. Many can see how determined and driven she is.
“she is open to exploring new options, finding new opportunities. She always gives her best with whatever she’s working on,” JSA Teacher Advisor Mr. Fischer said.
Janet is a very ingenious person that many teachers can attest to always being on her a-game. Her friends agree in this sense too.
“She’s very passionate; If she believes about something, she’s very passionate about it. With her passion that she has, I believe she can take it very far,” Naa Ashifa Anum said.
Janet Rodriguez is a diligent and hardworking student. Her strength of character and persistence will take her very far. She has the passion and the potential to do much more for her community.
