Litzi Duran, a senior at Morton East High School who has shown dedication towards her academic career, and commitment to her community in which she has learned to balance school during the day and her work at night.
Litzi currently holds a 4.5 GPA and is enrolled in 2 AP classes her senior year. Mindset already set on her future.
"I recently got accepted into Dominican University but still looking and planning on double majoring in Journalism and English," Litzi said.
She has participated in the annual powderpuff girls' football game during homecoming week and her junior year as part of Morton East snowball club.
"I am most excited about the senior activities this year, being with the whole senior class cause we really do not get to see them," Litzi said.
Despite the AP classes and working part-time after school she always manages to stay positive and stress-free.
"I'm not easily discouraged and although I may procrastinate a lot I allow myself to remember that even though things get difficult I know that everything is going to benefit me in the end," she said.
When she is not studying for school she is helping out in her community at the Cicero Outreach Department.
"I did get hired the Summer of my sophomore year and they introduced me to how they give back to the community they provide resources to the kids and they make sure they are not in the streets. I really like interacting with the kids. It is fun for me," she said.
Litzi mentioned one thing she could change in her community what would it be.
"I guess it would be more like the youth would have more of a connection with anyone who is older than them to give them a sense of direction because I see that some youth are lost and give up easily," she said.
Litzi is an example of a student and a great example of a friend.
Analy Diaz, a friend of Litzi's said, "Litzi is one of the sweetest people I know. She is so caring for everyone's wellbeing and is such an ambitious person. She gives her all in school and that’s why she has really good grades. She's always there for me to vent and she is a great listener."
Another fried of Litzi had positive things to say as well.
"She is very caring towards people and her surroundings, she is a person that hypes you up so you can transform into a better you. She is the nicest and most dedicated person you will ever meet, like when she sets her mind and dedications toward something she'll do it until she accomplishes it," Morton East senior Angel Gaona said.
Litzi always notices the way people express themselves.
"It makes me feel good because we all have those days where we might not see the good things in ourselves so it is comforting to know that they see me that way cause I always try to do my best and be there for others and even if it means I have to put some work aside I always do my best to make sure my friends are doing well," she said.
Litzi has a bright future ahead of her. Through her hectic schedule with AP classes, volunteering, and working in her community she still finds the time to be a good student, friend, and most of all a great citizen.
