• What is the Morton Transition Center?

    The Morton Transition Center is for 18-21 year-old students with cognitive disabilities and/or autism.  The focus is on transition goals and the intent is to further develop independent living skills, communication skills, vocational abilities, and recreational activities.  We work closely with families and outside agencies to help develop these skills.

    Requirements

    Independent Self-Care Skills: Ability to take care of personal hygiene with minimal assistance

    Community Safety: Ability to follow directions and exhibit safe behavior

    Socialization: Ability to interact with adults and peers in all environments: the apartment, the community, and vocational settings 

    Completed high school and be at least 18 years of age to be enrolled in the MTC

    Students will receive related services in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

    Support Services

    -All students who are at the MTC have IEP’s, and that sometimes includes minutes for supports services.  While at the MTC, they still receive speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. 

    Aging out

    -Students are eligible to be at the MTC until the day before their 22nd birthday.  In some cases they may be ready for independent employment before that time.  Students are evaluated quarterly to help assess this, and parents are always a part of this communication..

    Transportation

    -There are vans at the transition center used specifically for MTC students.

    Meals

    -Students receive breakfast and lunch daily.
